How Florida licenses security work
What the license classes on a security contract actually mean.
Florida regulates private security under Chapter 493. If you're comparing providers, these are the credentials worth asking about.
Class “B”
Security Agency
Held by the agency itself. Any firm engaging in business as a private security agency must have one, and it is valid for a single location.
Class “D”
Security Officer
Held by every individual performing security officer duties, after a minimum of 40 hours of training from a state-licensed security officer school.
Class “G”
Statewide Firearm License
Required in addition to a Class “D” for any officer who bears a firearm. Requires 28 hours of initial classroom and range training, plus four hours of requalification every year.
Class “MB”
Agency Manager
Held by the individual who manages a Class “B” security agency or branch office.

Does a Florida security agency need a license?
Yes. Florida regulates private security under Chapter 493, Fla. Stat. The agency itself holds a Class "B" agency license, individual unarmed officers hold a Class "D" license, and an officer who carries a firearm additionally holds a Class "G" statewide firearm license. When comparing providers, these are reasonable credentials to ask about.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes and Yes! KMSC Security holds a B license from the State of Florida to operate a Security company and we hold a comprehensive insurance policy. We can also add specific insurance coverage to meet client needs for specific events.
Do you provide short term coverage?
Yes, KMSC Security can cover from a 4 hour minimum to as long as the client needs. Once the services are no longer required we request just a 24 hour notice to inform our staff the project has ended.
